Gris1

Gris1, a French artist born in the 1980s in southern France, discovered his passion for art during his studies in 1996. Over the past 15 years, his graffiti journey has evolved from simple highway murals to a distinctive and concise style. Gris1 is a member of the Da Mental Vaporz (DMV) crew, founded in 1999 by Bom.K and Iso in the Paris suburbs. The crew, including Bom.K, Blo, Brusk, Dran, Gris1, Iso, Jaw, Kan, Sowat, and Lek, stood out with massive murals in the southern suburbs, moving beyond traditional graffiti themes like block letters and cartoon characters.

Each DMV artist brings a unique style and technique, creating a fascinating dynamic when their works are displayed together. The name "Da Mental Vaporz," meaning "The Vapors of the Psyche," reflects their mission to explore the depths of the personal psyche. This results in a diverse range of styles, collectively influencing 20th-century art trends. DMV's murals, which can span tens of meters, feature a blend of old-school graffiti, Pop Art, Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism, Cubism, and pure abstraction, achieving a harmonious yet tension-filled balance.

The crew primarily uses spray cans, acrylic, and mixed media, often transitioning their urban installations into gallery settings. Gris1, with his expertise in old-school graffiti and vectorial design, contributes to DMV's large-scale frescoes and innovative collective canvases, depicting monstrous characters, madness, and apocalyptic themes. His work with DMV continues to push the boundaries of graffiti art, maintaining his passion and creativity.
