Mambo

Born in Chile in 1969 to a French father and a Hungarian mother, Flavien, also known as Mambo, spent his formative years in Latin America. He later moved to Paris, then Los Angeles, and currently resides in Provence. Since the mid-eighties, Mambo’s art has evolved into a unique blend of modern, contemporary, minimalist, and graffiti styles, creating a distinctive praxis and aesthetic. His work spans from semi-abstract graphic compositions and spontaneous designs to abstract action painting and his notable red-orange portraits. Mambo’s artistic journey is categorized into four main series: Strokes, Brainology, Mindscapes, and Humans.

Mambo’s ability to choose the appropriate style or discipline for his expressions results in an expressive graphic universe filled with deep meanings, intertwining observation, ambiguity, and humor. Each piece he creates centers on humanity, drawing inspiration from the brain’s mental processes, sensations, emotions, memories, inner feelings, and mechanical reactions. Human behaviors are transformed into vibrant ideograms, and the environment serves as a dictionary from which Mambo selects symbols to compose his visual prose. His art presents visual enigmas that merge intuition with skill, offering a unique narrative through his colorful and enigmatic approach.
